For this assignment, I chose "Love Me Do" by the Beatles. Originally, I was trying to do "Blackbird" but it was challenging to depict the chord structure because of all of the accidentals.
This was a big learning experience for me. I always struggle with hearing chords and notes so having to find the solfege took some time and then also finding the chords and what solfege would work as harmonies. I liked this song because it had a simple 4 chord structure and is very catchy. The main melody was very catchy and repetitive which allowed me to start finding new ways to add and make it more interesting. The concept that I was trying to convey in this cover is starting with nothing but overtime adding and then at the end go back to nothing.
This challenged me to be in tune with myself and took A LOT of retries. I found starting with the bass line I created was a lot easier to follow then perhaps starting with just the melody. The bass line gave a foundation and helped to hear if my solfege and pitches were correct. I enjoyed this assignment because now I am starting to feel more confident in my ears hearing the correct pitches, but I am now aware that this will take more time than I think to do.
