Although I am not sure about wanting to pursue music education if I ever am in some type of teacher role I want to make sure that my students have a safe environment where they can be who they want to be and not feel judged for having an opinion. This class was structured so well in the sense that there was a smaller group of students and it was a safe environment where we shared our experiences in music and opinions on articles and topics that guest speakers introduced to us. Before this course, I was not aware of all the research that goes into music education and I really like how researchers such as Tobias is working on trying to bring technology into learning about music. It is important to be aware of how the world is changing and how technology has such a big role. I am personally against technology but it makes sense and depending on how you approach implementing it into your lesson plans. I am worried about instrumentalists losing their jobs and roles in modern music, but that might be what happens and we can not do anything so may as well join the cause and find new ways to teach the same important lessons that we are learning now. My high school music program saved me in so many ways by allowing me to make friends who are so important to me and because of my music teachers who were like my second parents. Many of us who are taking this course are here because of our music teachers who inspired us to continue music as a profession and hopefully inspire future students. I hope that in the future we can continue to be good future music teachers by giving students a safe environment and allow them to pursue their passions even if they don’t study it for post-secondary. There are so many ways to do what you love and I hope that students are not too scared because of what others might think. I hope to give students what I had but better and that I can help them be successful in whatever they want to do.
